General Connection Information

This metric is part of the Education-to-Workforce (E-W) Indicator Framework, specifically “Outcomes and milestones” which pertain to key outcomes and milestones along the E-W continuum that are strongly associated with individuals accessing mobility in relationships that help them further their goals.

This metric (Percentage of students or individuals reporting a high level of social capital on surveys) is a measurement for a key indicator, “(Social Capital),” and measures whether students or individuals have access to and can mobilize relationships that help them further their goals.

CEDS elements are shown in bold/italicized font and CEDS options are shown in italics.

Calculating a Response

Use the following CEDS elements to determine the school year for which the data will be measured for K12 students:

1.   School Year = most recent school year, representing July 1 through June 30

Use the following CEDS elements to determine the academic year for which the data will be measured for Postsecondary students:

1.   Academic Year Designator = most recent school year, representing July 1 through June 30

Use the following CEDS elements to determine the universe of K12 students:  

1.   Pull all unique students which is determined by using a unique Person Identifier where Has Person Identifier Type = Student Identifierand Has Person Identification System = State, or if your survey responses are collected anonymously, use Survey Participant Session GUID

2.   Where the Student:

a.   is associated with a State Education Agency through the Organization Identifier where Has Organization Identification System = SEA and Has Organization Identifier Type = State Agency Identifier

b.   is associated with a Local Education Agency through the Organization Identifier where Has Organization Identification System = SEA or LEA and Has Organization Identifier Type = Local Education Agency Identifier

c.   is associated with a K12 school through the Organization Identifier where Has Organization Identification System = SEA or LEA or School and Has Organization Identifier Type = School Identifier

d.   Has Role = K12 Student

Use the following CEDS elements to determine the universe of Postsecondary students:

1.   Pull all unique students which is determined by using a unique Person Identifier where Has Person Identifier Type = Student Identifierand Has Person Identification System = State, or if your survey responses are collected anonymously, use Survey Participant Session GUID

2.   Where the Student

a.   is associated with a Postsecondary Institution through the Organization Identifier where the Organization Identifier Type = Office of Postsecondary Education Identifier 

b.   Has Role = PS Student

From the universe of students, identify which grade each student is currently enrolled in using the following CEDS elements:

1.   Enrollment Entry Date is ≥ July 1 of the school being reported

2.   Enrollment Exit Date is ≤ June 30 of the school year being reported

3.   Entry Grade Level = Kindergarten (KG) through Twelfth grade (12) for K12 students or Postsecondary (PS) for Postsecondary students

From the universe of students, narrow the list to identify which students are reporting a high level of social capital on surveys using the following CEDS elements:

1.   Survey Title or Survey Identifier or Survey Short Name =

a.   Social Capital Assessment + Learning for Equity (SCALE) Social Capital, Network Diversity, and Network Strength scales, or

b.   A survey of similar degree

2.   Survey Administration Finish Date is within the School Year for K12 students and within the Academic Year Designator for postsecondary students

3.   Survey Level for Which Designed= Kindergarten (KG) through Twelfth grade (12), Postsecondary (PS)

4.   Survey Score Metric Type = Scale Score or Raw Score

5.   Survey Result Score Value is ≥ the level established by the organization are considered reporting a high-level of social capital on surveys

For K12 Students:

1.   Divide the number of students who are reporting a high level of social capital on surveys by the total number of students or individuals who took the survey. Multiply by 100.

For Postsecondary Students:

1. Divide the number of students who are reporting a high level of social capital on surveys by the total number of students or individuals who took the survey. Multiply by 100.
