Analysis Recommendations Label 1

This metric is part of the Education-to-Workforce (E-W) Indicator Framework, specifically “Outcomes and milestones” which pertain to key outcomes and milestones along the E-W continuum that are strongly associated with individuals achieving economic mobility and security.

This metric (Percentage of CTE students who earn at least 12 credits within a CTE program, or complete such a program if it encompasses fewer than 12 credits in total) is a measurement for a key indicator, “(CTE pathway concentration),” and measures whether students participating in career and technical education (CTE) concentrate in a single chosen pathway or program of study.

Calculating a Response:

Use the following CEDS elements to determine the school year for which the data will be measured:

1. Academic Year Designator = most recent school year, representing July 1 through June 30

Use the following CEDS elements to determine the universe of students:  

2. Pull all unique students which is determined by using a unique Person Identifier where Has Person Identifier Type = Student Identifierand Has Person Identification System = State or Institution
3. Where the Student:
• is associated with a Postsecondary Institution through the Organization Identifier where the Organization Identifier Type = Office of Postsecondary Education Identifier 
• Has Role = PS Student

From the universe of students, identify which have earned at least 12 credits within a CTE program, or complete such a program if it encompasses fewer than 12 credits in total, using the following CEDS elements:

1. Career and Technical Education Participant = Yes
2. Program Type = Career and Technical Education
3. Program Participation Start Date ≤ end of school year being reported
4. Program Participation End Date ≥ beginning of school year being reported

From the students who enrolled in a CTE program, identify the students who have earned at least 12 credits within a CTE program or complete such a program if it encompasses fewer than 12 credits in total, using the following CEDS elements:

1. Has Credits Earned ≥ 12 credits, or
2. Career and Technical Education Completer = Yes

Divide the total number of students who earn at least 12 credits within a CTE program or complete such a program if it encompasses fewer than 12 credits in total, by the total number of students who were enrolled in CTE programs. Multiply by 100.
